The phenomenon that
angkringan-angkringan in Yogyakarta are more mushrooming cannot be denied. Either
day or night, we can find angkringan anywhere in this city. Therefore, angkringan
cannot be removed from Yogyakarta.
Angkringan business itself is growing
rapidly. Seeing of the phenomenon, the government of Depok Sub-district,
Sleman, DIY hold Angkringan Grebek Gajah Wong Culinary Festival in Culinary
Park area, Condong Catur, Sleman two weeks ago, Saturday, May 11, 2013.
There were 40 owners of angkringan business
(participants) joined in this festival, and each participant got a donation in
the amount of 400.000 rupiahs from the government of Depok Sub-district.
Angkringan Grebeg Gajah Wong Culinary Festival was started from 4 pm, was
preceded by the jury's assessment and at 7.30 pm was the event of burning
catfish simultaneously by all participants. A free meal event for visitors was
limited until 10 pm. After 10 pm, the participants are allowed to sell their
wares until next morning.
All night long, the visitors were
entertained by various arts attractions were packed in Akulturasi Gelar Budaya
Nusantara. Such Gelar Budaya was made lively with the performances of college
students of Papua, Timor Leste, West Java, and Gorontalo. In addition, a wayang
performance with the puppeteers (Ki Bambang Harjanto and Ki Wisnu Gito Saputro)
was also placed before the visitors.
Five great winners of this festival can occupy
a stand in Culinary Park (Taman Kuliner). The purpose is to make the Culinary
Park Area become a centre of angkringan business, culinary centre, and rest
area all at once.
